Inspired by the Archives
From March 14 to March 19, the Historical Archives participated in Ispirati dagli Archivi (Inspired by the Archives) an initiative promoted by ANAI (The Italian National Archives Association).
“IT is a week dedicated to the thousands of kilometres of documents which make up the exceptional patrimony of Italian Archives,” to promote them and safeguard them.
During the ‘open doors’ week, the Historical Archives held events for experts in the field, residents and tourists. The calendar included all of the events held thanks to the inspiration provided by the documents at the archives.
These are documents containing the historical memory of the ancient Neapolitan public banks and the 500-year history of Naples, through handwritten financial records, which refer to kings, famous artists (from Caravaggio to Verdi), but also of unpublished and fascinating incidents among the common people.
The programme:
Monday, March 14, at 5:30 p.m. “L’Archivio e le Parola” (The Archives and the Word), and meeting/conversation with the writer Antonella Cilento, and her students from Lalineascritta, the writing and dramaturgy workshop held in the Archives with creations inspired by the document of the ancient Neapolitan banks. Historical events such as the Plague of Naples in 1656, great painters from the 17th century, and life in the Royal Hospice for the Poor.
